The birth of healthy babies is the cause of celebration in the developed world for mothers who enjoy some of the best health care in the world. However in Africa, it can be a life threatening event for mothers.
Muntada Aid believes access to quality maternal health for women is a fundamental human right and critical to reducing poverty. It is for this reason that;
- we send qualified UK health professionals to train local midwifes and improve their capacity in providing lifesaving treatment.
- provide important medical supplies to hospitals so that mother and child have an increased chance of survival and;
- we raise awareness of the issue of maternal mortality at local and national level of the countries we work in.
Our maternal health project focuses on saving the lives of mothers in Sub-Sahara Africa in line with UN Millennium Development Goal Five. We aim to contribute to the reduction of the alarming rates of mothers dying during labour in Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Mali.
